Scarface with Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer was released 40 years ago in 1983: "In 1980 Miami, a determined Cuban immigrant takes over a drug cartel and succumbs to greed."
The movie is also a remake of the 1932 film:
"An ambitious and nearly insane violent gangster climbs the ladder of success in the mob, but his weaknesses prove to be his downfall."
I would like to see a remake in the 202X style. I don't think it could beat the 1983 version and I'm curious how they could potentially destroy this iconic movie.
There have been several remakes (of movies or series) recently released, and few have been good.
The Arrival (1996)
This Sci-Fi movie stars Charlie Sheen (not to be confused with the 2016 movie Arrival starring Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner).
"Zane, an astronomer, discovers intelligent alien life. But the aliens are keeping a deadly secret, and will do anything to stop Zane from learning it."
The user rating for this movie is not high (6.2), but I enjoy the story and think a remake would be an interesting idea, considering that one of its main themes is currently relevant. I could even picture Greta Thunberg making a cameo in the remake.
Starship Troopers
They did a remake of Robocop and Total Recall, both originally done by Paul Verhoeven.
I'm curious they didn't do a remake of this satirical movie called Starship Troopers.
I am not a fan of the new versions of Total Recall and Robocop (with the exception of the Mr. Potato Head scene).
Trivia: Neil Patrick Harris was often called "Doogie Himmler" whenever he wore the military intelligence uniform as it bore a resemblance to SS uniforms. The name is a joke after Harris' TV series Doogie Howser, M.D. (1989) and a reference to SS leader Heinrich Himmler.
They Live
Another Sci-fi movie called They Live released in 1988: "They influence our decisions without us knowing it. They numb our senses without us feeling it. They control our lives without us realizing it. They live."
Trivia: "The big fight sequence was designed, rehearsed and choreographed in the back-yard of director John Carpenter's production office. The fight between Nada (Roddy Piper) and Frank (Keith David) was only supposed to last twenty seconds, but Piper and David decided to fight it out for real, only faking the hits to the face and groin. They rehearsed the fight for three weeks. Carpenter was so impressed he kept the scene intact, which runs five minutes, twenty seconds."
Demolition Man
The last movie is Demolition Man released in 1993:
"A police officer is brought out of suspended animation in prison to pursue an old ultra-violent nemesis who is loose in a non-violent future society."
Same pattern as Scarface where I would like to see a remake or a sequel in the 202X style.
Trivia: "The two original choices for the roles were Steven Seagal and Jean-Claude Van Damme. Van Damme was offered the role of the bad guy, but didn't want that role. He agreed to star in it if both the lead roles could be switched, so the producers tried to get Seagal to play the bad guy, but he declined."
James Bond
Sorry for the french video above but the idea of this blog post came mostly from the James Bond movies.
James Bond movies follows the "air du temps" (zeitgeist) pattern which is also the topic of this video above.
zeitgeist: the defining spirit or mood of a particular period of history as shown by the ideas and beliefs of the time (e.g. the story captured the zeitgeist of the late 1960s).
That's why I thought that it would be nice to see some remake movies at our "air du temps" today.
Also, I didn't like the last James Bond - No Time to Die.
It could be a good idea to set certain events at different times, which is how the concept for Back to the future was created:
"The inspiration for the film largely stems from Bob Gale discovering his father's high school yearbook and wondering whether he would have been friends with his father as a teenager. Gale also said that if he had the chance to go back in time, he would really go back and see if they would have been friends."
