BlockOctober II

  • by Jean-Sebastien Royer

Block, Block, Block

Last month, I did another BlockOctober or it should probably be called Blocktober where I blocked all social networks during the month of October (Linkedin included, Youtube excluded).

I used the same tricks that I used before like DNS Loopback on my computer and screen time on my phone. More info here.

For this time, I also applied a screen time on Google Chrome. It was interesting since I couldn't open any links that I received or from my bookmark manager. So I only saw the headline from the link without knowing too much about that.

Also by blocking Google Chrome on my phone, I couldn't do any Google Search. It was like back in the 90's time where I would look more in books than on the net to find what I want.

One exception: I unlocked Facebook/Meta and Twitter/X for 5 minutes to post my October blog post.

It was a nice experiment. Even after that, I still have some links and apps that are "disabled" on my computer and on my phone. I added this extra step where I ask to my-self: "Is it worth it to update the DNS or disable the screen time to see or watch this information?."

Thanks for reading,
