Doom Ray Traced

Another blog post on Doom. The first time was for my project called Klang that I used Doom as an exemplar (Klang: Doom #002).

This one is different and very interesting. Doom Classic (Ray Traced) was released last April 1 2022. It is based on PrBoom+ version but with "real-time path tracing".

This version is a must try and I don't regret it!

With the lighting and shadows, it increased the difficulty since you may not see the enemies sometime.

Digital Foundry (video above) did a detailed review about this version.

After I finished the game, I restarted the game but I swapped some music tracks (ogg format) with some below:

Doom Classic (Ray Traced) is still in progress (dev mode) and there is no installer.

The new version, prboom-rt-1.0.7.zip now supports the AMD gpu.

The installation instruction requires the Ultimate Doom from Steam but I tried with the Doom shareware version and it works.
