I did another experiment!
With the current era of nostalgia (movies, games, music,...), I decided to revisit all social networks I have.
Most of them were created almost 15 years ago.
I was curious to see the evolution and some stuff or posts I forgot over time.
X / Twitter: It works well, I can scroll from my first post until today.
Reddit: The timeline / history seems to be limited to 5 years ago for the scrolling.
There is some trick I found on Google search operator but it was too much.
Instagram: Not a lot of content since it was created "recently".
Youtube: I have multiple channels on Youtube and it was nice to read some old comments and feedback.
Facebook: A lot of dead links when you posted external resources but you can filter by years which is useful.
If you try that, you may find that the world has changed a lot in terms of content!
During this experience, I came across a few things I vaguely remembered posting.
So here's a quick list (including the image above):
- If movies followed their original casting...
- Logic Gates
I like social networks for discovering projects (even outside tech).
But LinkedIn now feels flooded with people posting with one hand on the keyboard and one in their underwear.
Too many posts now feel like empty market signaling:
Long generic AI polished walls of text, fake inspiration, zero substance, no concrete output, and no actual work behind them. Just noise dressed up as presence...
At this point, I mainly look at the Notifications section when I open the site, and even that requires a quick filter because of the current trend.
[Tip of the post]
"To be completely cured of newspapers, spend a year reading the previous week's newspapers."
- Nassim Nicholas Taleb
It was an interesting experience... Not particularly difficult but meaningful in another way.
You may learn something from your own evolution over time, or simply bring back good memories and flashbacks.
Thanks for reading,
JS.
